How Geowl teaches geography
Play your way
56 ready-made sets, from first steps in Europe to naming every country of the world. Your own set takes three choices: topic, question and how you answer – by pointing at the map, picking a tile, spelling from letters, typing the name, moving a slider, putting countries in order or matching pairs.
Remember for longer
Every mistake goes to review and comes back until the answer holds. Correct answers return after a while as well, so what you know does not fade.

What is Geowl?
Geowl is a geography learning app built around an interactive world map. It teaches countries, capitals, flags and regions through quizzes with several ways to answer, and brings back every mistake in review until it is learned. It runs on the phone and in the browser.
What can I learn with Geowl?
Where each of 240+ countries and territories lies, its capital, its flag, its shape, and how it compares in population and area. Regions of a country as well, such as the voivodeships of Poland or the states of the USA, each with its own flag.
Is Geowl free?
Yes. Everything on the map today is free, and no ad interrupts play – not in the free version either. A paid Geowl PRO is planned for extra topics; its scope and price will be published here before it launches.
Do I need an account?
No. You can start learning without signing in. Accounts and progress across devices are planned.
Where can I play?
On the phone and in the browser. The iPhone and Android apps and the web app are being prepared for release; the links on this page lead to what is available now.
How does review work?
A wrong answer becomes a review question and returns until it is answered correctly, often asked a different way than the first time. Correct answers come back after a longer interval, so the knowledge stays.
How is Geowl different from other geography quizzes?
Most geography quizzes ask one way: tap the country or pick one of four. Geowl asks the same fact seven ways and keeps what you missed until it is fixed. It is not a street-view guessing game, and it does not sell the map one region at a time.
